Silver Girls

„Sidabro merginos“ yra tiriamasis projektas, skirtas pirmųjų moterų fotografių, dirbusių Baltijos šalyse nuo XIX a. vidurio iki Antrojo pasaulinio karo pabaigos, istorijai, jų kūrybiniam palikimui, kuriam iki šiol buvo skiriama nepakankamai nuoseklaus dėmesio. Pirmą kartą knygos pavidalu „Sidabro merginos“ pateikia įtaigų kolektyvinį šių fotografių portretą ir išryškina jų indėlį ne tik į Baltijos fotografijos istoriją, bet ir į platesnę kultūrinę bei socialinę istoriją.

Leidinys apibendrina visus projekto „Sidabro merginos“ vystymosi etapus – tyrimų iniciatyvas ir juos sekusias parodas, tarp kurių iki šiol didžiausia 2025 m. buvo surengta Nacionalinėje dailės galerijoje.

Kataloge publikuojami projekto iniciatorių Indrek Grigoro, Šeldos Puķītes esė, taip pat bendradarbės Agnės Narušytės tyrimai. „Sidabro merginos“ pristato XIX a. pabaigos – XX a. pirmoje pusėje kūrusių fotografių istorijas per jų gyvenimo ir kūrybos analizę. Leidinyje siekta papasakoti apie šias moteris ne izoliuotai, bet atskleidžiant jų veikimą platesnėje bendruomenėje, išryškinant jų indėlį, ilgą laiką paliktą fotografijos istorijos paraštėse.

Knyga išleista anglų kalba. Dizainą sukūrė Gytis Skudžinskas (NoRoutineBooks, Vilnius), spausdino UAB BALTO print.

'Silver Girls' is an open-ended research project dedicated to uncovering the legacy of early women photographers from the Baltic states. Evolving organically through art festivals, exhibitions and emerging collaborations, the project continually expends to incorporate newly discovered material. Launched with a clear mission – to shed light on the overlooked contributions of women to the history of Baltic photography – 'Silver Girls' addresses a field still largely neglected in academic and curatorial discourse.

The publication summarizes all stages of the ‘Silver Girls’ project's development—research initiatives and subsequent exhibitions, the largest of which to date was held at the National Gallery of Art in 2025.

The catalogue features essays by the project initiators Indrek Grigor and Šelda Puķīte, as well as research by their colleague Agnė Narušytė. ‘Silver Girls’ presents the stories of women photographers who worked in the late 19th and early 20th centuries through an analysis of their lives and work. The publication aims to tell the stories of these women not in isolation, but by highlighting their impact on the wider community and their creative contribution, which has long been left on the margins of photography history.

The book is published in English. The design was created by Gytis Skudžinskas (NoRoutineBooks, Vilnius) and printed by UAB BALTO print.
